Hire with Purpose. Purpose is a major reason why many people accept one job over another. In today’s market hiring for purpose is powerful. Purpose is a major factor driving people’s choices at work.
Performance soars when people connect with your purpose and people who are focused on purpose perform better on almost every metric that is measured. How do you hire for pur-pose when it is something you cannot teach?
Someone who has identified their reason or purpose for the things that they do and is highly motivated can be taught the necessary skills. Why does purpose make such a difference? In short, because purposeful companies are more likely to have purposeful employees. So when hiring if you want to understand what makes purpose-oriented people perform so ef-fectively, you only need to consider what it actually means to be one. You can’t teach pur-pose but I have found if you pick people with less practical experience but with the right atti-tude, they will ultimately offer far more value in terms of loyalty, productivity, growth, and commitment. People that bring purpose to what they do will want to develop and grow as your company grows. Better still, in my opinion, people with a well-defined purpose will al-ways have the motivation to push the boundaries.
