I often ask why more people do not explore Insurance as a career?
When I ask people what made them start their careers in Insurance most say – I never planned a career in Insurance I just fell into it or I had family in the business and they suggested it.
Despite the fact that Insurance is not marketed as being a particularly sexy industry to work in, I have found that most people who start in the industry have amazing careers. With experience they become well paid too.
I am of the firm belief that there is not enough done at college or grass roots level to promote the industry as exciting and full of opportunity. How many people come out of college or university with a career in Insurance in their sights?
Projections are that almost a quarter of Insurance people are expected to retire over the next five to ten years. Filling the void that they leave will be challenging but what about the opportunities that this will create. The opportunity to bring on board new talent and inject fresh ideas.
I have recruited for the Insurance industry for many years – you could call me a Lifer Insurance Recruiter and I have never been more convinced than now that Insurance offers people from all backgrounds the chance to grow, develop and have rewarding careers. There is also the feel-good factor – important to many people. Everyone wants their work to be stimulating and to make a difference in people’s lives – Insurance achieves this.
