2025 is proving to be a challenging time for many businesses hiring. Many hiring managers including recruiters are grappling with shifting expectations and a growing skills gap. Attitude and behaviours matter more now than ever before in my time as a recruiter.
We are in the skills gap era and this is not going to improve any time soon.
Instead of always headhunting from competition when technical skills are impossible to find, I believe the only way forward is to value potential rather than perfection. It is the smart way to bridge the skills gap.
People with the right attitude and behaviours add real value to a company dynamic and culture. They thrive in an environment of learning. They can bring an open-mindedness, a collaborative team spirit, a flexible approach and proactive attitude.
My advice to hiring managers, and myself, is to focus on attitude. Attitude driven hiring done well can lead to an engaged, focused, collaborative team of people that do great work. Isn’t this what all employers want? I certainly do.
