Take time to unplug, sniff the roses or the coffee!
We live such frantic lives. Every day we seem to be hitting the fast forward button and keeping it on full.
Moving into week 3 of self-isolation I am working hard trying to embrace what I preach, but too date rarely practice. Don’t forget to unplug, sniff the roses – or in my case the coffee. Adapting to our new reality has forced me to see how important taking time out to enjoy the small pleasures in life is.
I have started to appreciate those simple things that work pressures often push into the background –
• Taking in our beautiful Auckland sunsets – they are sensational
• Walking to release those feel good endorphins
• Baking bread
• Escaping into my darkroom developing my photographs
My crazy work schedule became crazier for the first 2 weeks of lockdown. When I realised I was working 7-day weeks I took stock of what was really important.
Recruitment is all about relationships. I love meeting people. I love creating work opportunities for great people. I love working with client companies that value what our agency does and the great candidates we get to meet and locate for them. I love the fact that what we do really does matter. We literally change the lives of others. It is a privilege to work in such an exciting industry but it is also important to take time out. Taking the time to unplug, sniff the roses or the coffee makes me feel more optimistic for our future. Optimistic for our business. Optimistic for life in general. When you unplug you realise life is far more fun if you view change and challenge as a new adventure.
